Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day — may you enjoy the Luck o’ the Irish today!  Don’t forget that Google does a special logo for this and other holidays — check out their archives!

Many thanks to Kacey, Jen and Mattie for their Irish hospitality.  Here’s a picture of Mattie in her St. Patrick’s Day finery:

Mattie

Mattie used her charm to raise money for the Washington Humane Society, which is where my dog nephew, Cooper, came from.  Here’s to second chances for awesome cats and dogs — good job, Mattie!

This Blog Has Gone to the Dogs…

Indy and Cooper, my doggy niece and nephew, have a bone to pick with me: I haven’t posted pictures of them yet. To them, I offer my most sincere apologies and, to you, I offer Indy and Cooper.

Indy is a two-year-old German Shepherd, goes by the nickname Indiana von Schlonkin Bonkin, and likes car rides, plush toys, her dad and staking out the perimeter of her grandma’s yard. She dislikes time away from her dad, as well as dog spa day. She is a very good girl.

Cooper is one, goes by the nickname Mr. Cooper, and likes his mama, giving kisses, going weewee in his grandpa’s shoes and trying to take anything belonging to his sister.  He dislikes getting in trouble with his grandma.  Cooper is wild and lovable, and possibly is part dingo.

Some People Aren’t Meant to Dabble in Art…

I tried a little experiment this week: at the end of each day, I took a self-portrait with my digital camera to capture my mood.  I thought of each picture as a diary entry, only quicker and flashier (get it?)!  The result: it would appear that a graduate student who works full-time gets a little punchy by the end of the week:)  Here is the (de)evolution of my week, in pictures:

Sunday
Sunday
Well, this is a happy luddite!  The week’s just starting, and I’m ready for whatever it brings.

Monday
Monday
I’ve just come from the gym and I’m ready to write Official Post 5: The Search, Part Two.  Let the seratonin flow!

Tuesday

OK, one class down, another to go later in the week.  All is well, but it appears I am upside down (Rosie actually likes to sleep this way).  Hmm…

Wednesday
Wednesday, Part 1
Oh dear, a crack in the facade.  Not so perky anymore!  And wait, what’s this?

Wednesday, Part 2
Sleepy time!  Don’t ask me how I took this picture because I won’t tell.  Note that I fell asleep on my laptop — I showed it who’s boss!  BTW, this isn’t my most flattering picture of all time but, for you and for the integrity of the project, I published it.

Thursday

Ah, sweet, sweet relaxation with the best show on TV!  Classes successfully completed for the week, and one more day of work to go.  All in all, not too bad.

If you had done the same thing this week, what would your string of photos show?

For My Arlingtonians, and For People Who Eat

Some things are so good that you have to share, and I am nothing if not a giver.  This Friday, some of us celebrated the fact that our friend Sarah was in town (yay!).  Afterward, we needed a little snack.  You’ve been there: it’s 2:00 in the morning and your food baby demands sustenance.  NEVER deny your food baby sustenance.  My food baby is named Pork Chop.

Anyway, we decided to walk our little selves to Mario’s.  I was talked into trying barbeque pizza: cheese pizza with a big scoop of pork barbeque on top.  Don’t turn up your noses — it was awesome!  I highly recommend it, and I want to commend the good people of Mario’s for their late-night, ingenious deliciousness (even the surly man behind the counter, who will be known from now on as Surly Man).

Here is a picture of Sarah and me after the deliciousness:

Maybe someday Pork Chop will have his own blog.  In the meantime, check out some of Arlington’s quirky history!

Because You Need These Things…

OK, people.  I view it as part of my job to tell you about things that you can do/learn about on the Internet.  Well, eureka!  Here are two of my new favorite things as of this moment:

 1.  Nike: DESIGN YOUR OWN SHOES.  Yes, that’s right.  Write your name on them, even.  Girly shoes, manly shoes, girly man shoes — you choose!  Prof. Holtz turned the Intro to Public Relations course on to these with her sassy silver numbers.  Go Marge!

2.  The Fractured Prune: DESIGN YOUR OWN DONUTS!  Walk your new little shoes over to this joint for some custom fried pastries.  Ahh, custom fried pastries.  A big thanks to Garrett Graff for telling the Intro to the Digital Age bunch about these.

There is a line in a song by the Veltz Family (formerly Cecilia) that says, and I paraphrase, “I don’t want everything, I just want everything the way that I want it.”  And it’s the truth!

The Airing of Grievances: Part One in a Series

Grant me a moment during which I can complain like the old woman whom I will someday be.

I ordered a book for school through Barnes and Noble.  Expected wait time: three days.  Actual wait time: nine days.  Not cool, but I did get to use a coupon and my swipey card, and I love me a discount.  Well, little did I know that they use that card (which I bought, by the way) to track what I buy, then try to sell me more of it via e-mail.  It’s creepy; they are stalkers!

 Who has grieved you retaililly?

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Don’t believe the naysayers — Valentine’s Day is the best!  Do something loveful for someone today — you’ll never be sorry for that.

Take Time(.com) Out…

…to enjoy sweet, sweet victory!  Stinging from yesterday’s harsh blow, I Googled “accidental luddite” again…and this little blog was the #1 result out of 34,000 entries.  Thanks to everyone for visiting and commenting; I’m not yet sure how this works, but I think I’ll learn when I read The Search.

When Time(.com) Travelers Steal from You!

I just Googled “the accidental luddite” because, to be truthful, I Google everything.  I also wanted to see if my little site popped up first in the search results.  What an honor that would be!

Imagine my horror when a Time.com article by the same name was listed first in the search results.  Seriously?  The most insulting part of this identity theft: someone else used this term online ten years ago.  I didn’t even know how to send an e-mail until 1998.

I think I’ve shown some progress in the past ten years, though, and just today I tried hyperlinking for the first time.  What did you try today that was new to you?
