About Accidental Luddite

by accidentalluddite @ 2:09 am

Luddite: a person who opposes change or progress through technology (see Dictionary.com for a ton of official definitions).

I do not oppose change purposefully. I just find myself in the wake of technological innovation, which makes me cranky.

Imagine my shock and awe, then, that the past year has launched me into the heart of the 2000s. My cell phone has voicemail (sure was hard to know who called before this advancement), my camera uses no film (but how to move the pictures from my camera to the computer?), and my iPod is chock-full of good stuff (but down with the Man, Apple Inc.). Oh, and I finally got cable (wow, TiVo — who knew?!).

You might wonder: why does this person have a blog? This is a project for my class at Johns Hopkins. What started as a mandatory assignment, though, has become a huge thrill. I love to tell you what I’m thinking. I love it even more when you tell me what you’re thinking.

Before you go, other things that I love: my family, my friends, Rosie, Daisy and Madison (our American Eskimos; I’ll post pictures as soon as I figure out how), Cooper and Indy (dog nephew and niece, respectively), Friends reruns (don’t be surprised if I mention these and their important applications to real life), cooking, dancing, 80s music and reading.

Oh, and my digital camera. Damn.

  1. Hello Accidental Luddite. I stumbled across your blog while web-searching for my own (I am too lazy to remember URLs). Mine is ‘Lazy Luddite Log’ and I feel similarly to you on the technology front. I love its application but just wish that the whole process of understanding something new could be skipped. Anyway congratulations on the irony of a website with the word Luddite in its name.

  2. Hi Daniel,

Thank you for stopping by! I checked out your blog and really enjoyed it. And, I especially appreciated the alliteration in its name.

You’ve hit the nail on the head when it comes to learning knew technologies. If we could all just pick up new gadgets and put them to use right away, the world would be a better place. And I’m sure I’d get a lot more use out of my iPod.

Definitely please stop in again! And, I know we’d all love to hear more about life in Australia.

    Kathy
