Needed: Procrastination

Filed under: Uncategorized — by accidentalluddite @ 11:18 am

So, I don’t think I’ve mentioned yet that I’m in a speechwriting class this semester, which I really like (but I miss you, Digital Age peeps!). And the workload has not been bad, which is a nice surprise when you forgo a vacation to take summer coursework. But now I have to write a fairly long and relatively challenging speech that’s due Monday, and I’m trying desperately to procrastinate. Any ideas?

Ooh, blogging is a good start!

…OK, I’m back. It’s Sunday, and I am STILL working on this project. What I have is really good (I think?), but it’s taking forever. In the meanwhile, I have:

  • completed various chores around my apartment, and I’ve had the Yankee Candles going. It’s so cozy here.
  • watched approx. 4 hours of the Food Network. Check out Ace of Cakes!
  • seen You’ve Got Mail twice. I’m so glad those kids get together in the end. And I love Meg Ryan’s hair.
  • consumed about a pound of strawberries, and I’m waiting to see if I turn pink. (Can that happen? Because I ate a bunch of baby carrots once and was orange-y.)
  • worn 2 different pairs of pajamas (though not at the same time). It’s important to be comfortable while procrastinating, or you won’t be effective at it.

And none of this would have been possible if I didn’t have:

  1. this paper to do.
  2. a new air conditioner! My apartment is so cool and comfy that I may never re-emerge. I was actually cold last night. Brrr! But I will still check out your pools for you, loyal readers, because I am nothing if not service-oriented. And because I haven’t spoken with anyone for two days, and I could get lonely soon.

Call me!

  1. that’s funny. i just had this same conversation with myself for my PR in the Age of Digital Influence course. I’m missing out on my cousin’s fabulous 30th bday party because I took too long to do my homework for this week. I came up with this motto: procrastination only hurts me. Profound huh?

  2. This process has been painful! I’m sorry that you’re missing the party for school, but we’ll throw an even bigger one…when we graduate :)

  3. I’m in my pajamas too, avoiding doing an edit that I really need to get done together. I watched a whole bunch of Doctor Who to avoid doing real work.

  4. TV is an excellent distraction. And I think pajamas are critical in the facilitation of the procrastination.

    Who is Dr. Who?

  5. No, no, no, no. It’s always like this:

    The Doctor: I’m The Doctor.
    Other Person: Doctor Who?

It’s a BBC show that’s been on the air for approximately 237 years (or at least 29 seasons). It’s recently been relaunched and the new series air on the SciFi Channel. It’s good stuff. For me. I wouldn’t recommend it to everyone, though.

  6. [...] fact, on these occasions, I’ve found it useful to procrastinate. One can also accomplish a variety of mini-tasks, [...]
